Monocle – the history

A monocle is a totally circular lens, approximately 40mm diameter, that was used historically as a reading device,or also for far distance correction of myopia or hyperopia.

The lens was attached to a lanyard, worn around the neck or attached to the suit or vest.
The original monocles often had a “gallery” mounted on the reverse side of the frame, to help fix the glass in the eye orbit.
